Skate Daze is an unreal community event put together by Susan Evans and the team at ‘On The Flip Side’ events. It’s a buzz of a day, with skating, live art, workshops, bands and tasty food.

We had our Dailys crew, Matty and Zack, and team rider Massimo, head along to help run the day and showcase their stuff in some demos.

We had a chat with Zack about how it all went!

The day started out with Matty pulling up in my driveway in the Daily Grind van looking very pleased with himself to drive such a beast of a vehicle. I slammed back the rest of my coffee and headed down to St Clair to set up. We parked up the van at St Clair skatepark, got everything set up and it was ON from then.

We had a little warm up skate to get the juices flowing and team riders Archer and Massimo weren’t far behind.

More and more people started flowing in, the bands were getting set up and the DJ was playing some beats. This was our cue to kick the demo off. Matty C was on the mic so you know he got people fired up. I think it was the signature ‘lessgooo’ that did it.

The first session was sick. All of us we’re getting our flow and once we did, the hype was very contagious. With the young groms on the session with their fresh legs, we all ended up jumping down the double set with some success at least.

Once we were all satisfied and burnt out, we made sure to hit up the green room for some pepsi max and some staple aussie treats.

After we were all feeling replenished, we gave the kids what they want. Free sh#t! We of course made sure to load the van up with plenty of goodies to go around.

The most precious treasure in the van was of course a fresh deck and it had to go to a deserving recipient. We all searched the park for the worst board in the session.

There were a few great contenders but one stood out from the rest. The board was basically a soggy piece of cardboard and wasn’t doing him any favours. We all took turns and put the board out of its misery and set the new one up. The moment it was set up he went out and started ripping, definitely a deserving home!

With Matty being the official Daily Grind environmentalist, he had the great idea of doing a competition to see who could collect the most rubbish around the park and the winner would score the last of the goodies.

It’s safe to say the groms took this challenge very seriously to the point that it took 10 minutes to count everything and find out who won. Thanks to Matty and the groms who helped out keeping the park looking fresh and rubbish free!

As the day went on, it just got better and better. We had another 3 demos and everyone was killing it. Plenty of manoeuvres were landed and the crowd was hyped the whole time. Matty and I had plenty of our homies rock up half way through and they even joined in on the demo, the energy was next level.

To summarise the day, everyone who was involved had a sick time. Everyone was looking out for one another, eating good food, listening to good music and of course having a good ol’ time on the skateboard. Always such a treat to see the community come together and share great times.
